Things to do in the area

Whitwell Village is perfectly situated on the north shore of Rutland Water, only 5 minutes from the market town Oakham and 10 minutes from the beautiful historic town of Stamford, with it’s grand 16th century Burghley House.

Rutland is England’s smallest county, offering plenty of outdoor activities as well as it’s market towns to explore. Rutland Water offers numerous leisure activities such as watersports, cycling, fishing and bird watching. The surrounding Rutland Villages are filled with Chocolate Box Cottages and traditional country pubs.

The towns of Oakham and Uppingham offer a range of individual boutiques; Uppingham is renowned for it’s antiques and galleries, whilst the county town of Oakham has a mix of quality highstreet and independant shops – and even a castle!

The town of Stamford is a historic stone town, and one of Britain’s best preserved old towns. With plenty of shopping, eateries and coffee shops amidst the beautiful architecture and alley ways, there is a lot to explore within Stamford. On the outskirts of the town is the beautiful Burghley House where vistors can enjoy a guided tour, take a walk around the park, take the children to paddle in the water fountains, or take time over lunch in the Orangery.
